The Project Partners

In accordance with their respective areas of expertise, the Fraunhofer Institutes involved in the DEBO-Pack project are contributing to the project by pursuing the following research objectives:

Fraunhofer IFAM

Development of packaging adhesives in which the initiation and control of the debonding speed is triggered by an external trigger after use of the packaging by means of a debonding system contained in the adhesive, without impairing the required stability during production and typical use. This goal is to be achieved alternatively by targeted treatment of the surfaces or the introduction of active components into the surface. In addition, the application of the adhesives must be such that not only is their consumption minimal and their positioning as ideal as possible for debonding, but also that the processing is carried out in such a way that the active components for debonding are not affected.

Fraunhofer IVV

Development of requirement-oriented, resource-minimized packaging and its efficient production, i.e., packaging and material design, selection of suitable product/packaging combinations, adaptation of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and packaging designs with regard to debonding on demand and separation of packaging components.

Fraunhofer UMSICHT

Further development and shortening of recycling processes, determination of the influence of adhesive degradation products on recyclability and, if necessary, adaptation of the recycling process and investigations into consumer acceptance in a real-life environment for successful implementation on the market.

Fraunhofer IBP

New standards for the ecological assessment of material use and recyclability. Development of harmonized life cycle assessment of product packaging as a basis for industry standards
